Founded originally in the 1950s in Guangzhou, China, Yin Ji Chang Fen has built a reputation as the βKing of Chang Fen,β a title earned through decades of dedication to preserving the traditional craft of making rice noodle rolls. The restaurant chain has expanded internationally, including multiple locations in the Bay Area, such as San Lorenzo, and even New York. The San Lorenzo location carries forward this legacy by using time-honored techniques, such as the traditional cloth-pulling method to create thin, delicate, yet robust rice noodle rolls that maintain a smooth texture and unique flavor profile. This meticulous process ensures that each dish reflects the authentic taste and quality that has made Yin Ji a household name in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau[1][3][6].
The menu at Yin Ji Chang Fen β San Lorenzo is extensive and thoughtfully curated to showcase the best of Cantonese street food and breakfast staples. The rice noodle rolls come with a variety of fillings including shrimp, beef, vegetables, and marinated pork, all served with a signature sweet soy sauce that enhances the natural flavors without overpowering them. Beyond chang fen, the restaurant offers a wide selection of congee varieties, dim sum items such as shum mai, dumplings, chicken feet, and unique snacks like walnut steam buns and fried bean curd rolls. These dishes are crafted to provide a balanced and satisfying meal whether for breakfast, lunch, or takeaway[2][4][6].
The ambiance at the San Lorenzo location is described as light and welcoming, with rows of tables that encourage a communal dining experience, often enjoyed family-style. The service is attentive and efficient, with options for both traditional waitstaff ordering and modern QR code-based ordering and payment, catering to a variety of customer preferences. This blend of traditional cuisine and contemporary service makes Yin Ji Chang Fen a popular destination for both locals and visitors seeking authentic Cantonese flavors in a comfortable setting[2].
Yin Ji Chang Fenβs commitment to quality extends beyond taste to include fair pricing and excellent customer service, which has earned it positive reviews and a loyal customer base. Signature dishes like the oyster and egg rice noodle rolls and the deep-fried dough, which pairs perfectly with congee, highlight the restaurantβs ability to deliver both authenticity and innovation. The San Lorenzo branch continues to uphold the brandβs heritage while inviting patrons to explore and enjoy a rich culinary tradition that dates back centuries, making it a standout choice among Chinese and Asian restaurants in the area[3][4].

My 5-star review for this establishment is long overdue. We come here often, and this is by far my favorite YinJi Chang Fen location. The food and service are consistently excellent, and our orders usually come out quickly. The ladies who work here are always kind, welcoming, and provide great service every time. Highly recommend!

Cantonese breakfast but make it available all day? Yes please! This is the latest location to open up in the bay area making it the least busy as well. We rolled in on a weekday afternoon and were seated pretty quickly. There are a LOT of cheung fun (rice roll) options here as well as plenty of congee and other appetizers. The pricing here was really reasonable for 2025 as well, with most rolls around $7 and congee hovering around $8. They don't skimp on the portions either. For myself that follows a plant-based diet, I ordered their Vegetarian Cheung Fun, their Yu Tiao Cheung Fun, and the Veggie Congee (hold the egg shreds). Again, the portions here are quite generous and even one bowl and one roll would be enough to satisfy two people. Their cheung fun quality here is really impressive. The rice itself is very silky and moist and the dipping sauce provided isn't overly salty either. The congee here was also delicious and really hit the spot for someone that loves eating rice porridge. My mom even said that the cheung fun mirrors the quality she eats while in Guangdong. Mama seal of approval is a great sign. Great experience with their service and excellent food makes this p

Located right next door (to the left) of the lucky supermarket in what was once a Japanese restaurant, yun ji chang fen (pronounced Ngun Ghay Cheung Fuhn in Cantonese) serves jook, rice rolls and some dim sum in a bright but a little noisy space. They have 4 locations in the east bay and are offshoots from the original chain in hong kong and macau. What is "good Jook" is subjective but i liked what they made. They have many varieties (beef, chicken, pork liver etc)but it all starts with the jook base which in my opinion is quite good. Some might say it is not as silky or "cottony" as it should be. The joohk comes out almost boiling hot. 8.5 out of 10. Their rice rolls aka cheung fuhn are winners with more variety to choose from than your typical dim sum house. I found the wrapper or wrapping a little too watery though. 7.5 out of 10 Shrimp dumplings (hah gow) and siu mau were just ok. The filling inside the hab gohw was a little mushy. 6.5 out of 10 Portions are moderate and so is the pricing. Wait staff are helpful, friendly and accommodating. Parking is easy. It gets busy at lunch time but table turn quickly. I guess the demographics in San Lorenzo continue to evolve. Who wou

This place is hopping, even on weekdays! Iβm so glad to see a business doing well in this spot by the San Lorenzo post office. Of course, I had to try chang fen! I opted for the BBQ pork and dried shrimp combo for the filling, and I added scallions for a small upcharge. Most of the dishes offer several modification options. I was slightly worried that the dried shrimp flavor would be overwhelming, but it dissolved well into the soy-based sauce. The barbecue flavor was sweet but slightly smoky. I appreciated the vegetal zing the scallions brought to the dish. Do add some of the mild, yet lively, vinegar sauce on the table. The chile sauce also deserves a shout-out. Great steamed walnut buns, and I also enjoyed the Liwan congee, but I think the simpler chicken or beef is what I'll opt for next time.

Dropped by over the weekend. The place was packed with people waiting out the door. Definitely get here early. There was plenty of parking Once we were seated and ordered our food, it took a bit of time for the food to come out of the kitchen. It's best to remember that if you are really hungry. It might be a while before the food comes out. When it did, the food was hot and fresh tasting. We found the food not much to look at, but the flavors were there and a solid 4 stars. We found one dish, the spare ribs, a tad on the salty side. All other dishes were good. The rice crepes on the dishes we ordered were cooked perfectly. Overall a solid 4 star place.
